Starting March 2012 at Guy's Dental Clinic Cardiff
Download brochure and application form IntroductionImplant treatment has now become firmly established within mainstream dentistry. Single tooth implants have, in many cases, become the standard of care in preference to conventional bridgework or dentures. The GDC has made clear its recommendations for the standard of training dentists must undertake to practise implants in general practice today. This course has been designed to provide a very high level of practical and theoretical training to give dentists the skills and confidence to provide implant treatment independently in general practice. No prior experience of implantology is required. The Certificate in Implantology course credits you with 70 hours of verifiable CPD. About David GuyDavid is the principal of a referral implant practice in Cardiff. He was awarded a Distinction in his MSc in Implant Dentistry from Warwick University. He qualified from Cardiff where he was awarded the Wystan Peach prize for Restorative Dentistry. He has been awarded a Fellowship of the British Society of Oral Implantology. He is on the committee of the British Society of Oral Implantology. He completed a Certificate in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. He is an Associate Fellow of the Clinical Institute of Education at Warwick Medical School. His research interests are in tissue engineering for bone augmentation. Course DescriptionThe Implant Year Course gives a very prominent role to practical teaching as well as theoretical aspects. There are 10 lecture days over a one year period, as well as extra practical sessions with participants own patients. A key component of the course is that participants will treat their own patients from start to finish under one-to-one supervision at Guy’s Dental Clinic, gaining essential skills and knowledge of real implantology. Ten patients from participants own practices may be treated during the course period and an extended period after the course is completed, to allow all delegates to gain practical experience with a range of increasingly complex implants treatments. Patients will pay a reduced fee to the practice for this treatment. In depth teaching will cover dental implantology from single tooth to full arch restorations, and principles of bone grafting. The course is held at Guy’s Dental Clinic and the lecture facilities on Cathedral Road in Cardiff. The course is limited to a maximum of 8 participants to give an optimum level support to each person. FeesThe implantology year course fees are £4000 per person. A deposit of £400 secures your place on the course. To ApplyEmail your contact details to courses@guysdentalclinic.co.uk or call 02920 220794.
